SCHOOL STARTED - Thank you so very much!
January in Guatemala is a very difficult time of year for so many families. The school year starts here in January and although the national schools are free there is usually a Q 60-70 ($8-9 US) fee to register. The kids are also given school supply lists that they must bring on the first day of school in order to attend. The lists include items such as notebooks, scissors, paper, calculators, pencils, crayons, toilet paper, etc. Depending on the grade they can be very expensive. They also need uniforms.
With the help of our host family (Guatemalans) they helped us to locate the poorest of the poor here in San Lucas. The above picture shows just a few of them. We then reached out for donations and we were overwhelmed by the generosity of so many many people.
We not only bought all the school supplies, and needed uniforms, but also bought backpacks, shoes, and for some, socks and underwear.
Thank you so much for helping us help those in such need. God bless!
