Where we now live and where we will be living soon.

Some have asked, "Now where are you living?"
I created this map to help explain just where we are and where we are going.

We currently live in Santa Cruz La Laguna where we are taking immersion Spanish School classes for 8 weeks (September and October). The town is very small and is very isolated. There are no roads in and out of the town that are usable and a boat is needed to enter and exit the town. It is amazing to see how a community can live using boat taxis for everything. We leave the area by boat (a cost of 10 Quetzales = $1.30) every few days to buy water and food at neighboring town (Panajachel).

When we finish Spanish School we will move back to the San Lucas Tolimán area and hopefully begin volunteer work. Some of the possibilities will be working in the rural school in Godinez where my good friend Beto is the director. We also have a friend, Dr. Tun who is the director of the mission medical clinic, work there is also a possibility. The church / mission in San Lucas Tolimán also serves many of the distant villages and I hope to be able to do ministry there as well.

We are just beginning to see that there is so much work that can be done here as we build friendships and relationships. God will show us the way and will put us where we belong I am sure of that.

  1. Last year, on our Pananma Canal trip took us to Tapachula, Mexico, very close to the Mexican/Guatemalan border. Our credentials were checked and the buses were checked for people hiding underneath. We enjoyed the people and the culture there--they were very welcoming---but the poverty is mind-boggling. Our hearts went out to them! God bless you.
